The Hidden Power Behind Ventilated Facade Systems

An aluminum support structure is the hidden force behind ventilated facade cladding. Its added value is often difficult to convey, but Lomax Systems has found a way. They use HiCAD to create 3D visualizations of the aluminum support structure for projects. This allows even non-technical stakeholders to appreciate its benefits. By making this hidden strength visible, Lomax Systems manages to win over many projects, such as the BaanTower in Rotterdam and NOI Avenue in The Hague.

Lomax Systems focuses exclusively on the engineering and production of aluminum support structures for ventilated facades. They develop detailed, high-quality, custom solutions for all types of cladding, including glass, solar panels, HPL, composite, and ceramic tiles. “Our strength lies in our in-house engineering department,” says Pijnenborg. “We always deliver custom, project-specific solutions. There’s no request we can’t solve or develop.” And they do most of that development in 3D. “The market demands it—nowadays, everything is designed in BIM 3D. We’ve been working very successfully with HiCAD for several years.”

Visual Representation

One of Lomax Systems’ current projects is the BaanTower, a 159-meter-high tower in the Baankwartier district of Rotterdam with over 400 residential units. A striking feature of the design is its large windows, flanked by black marble strips. “For this project, we are engineering and supplying a custom-made aluminum substructure,” Pijnenborg explains. “We convinced the client of our tailored solution as early as the quotation stage by presenting a 3D HiCAD visualization of our technical concept.

The substructure consists of prefabricated racks that only need to be mounted onto the vertical profiles, enabling our client to assemble much faster and more efficiently. We were able to make this invisible strength perfectly visible through detailed HiCAD renders.”

Ready-to-Install Kits

Lomax Systems delivers the full package—from technical development, construction, and production to supplying ready-to-install kits for simple and efficient assembly. “That’s also how we’re contributing to NOI Avenue in The Hague,” Pijnenborg continues. This project involves converting an office building into a modern residential complex, located in the heart of The Hague’s Bezuidenhout district. Construction is underway, with handover of the rental apartments expected in the third quarter of 2027.

“For this project too, we are supplying a custom-made aluminum substructure fully engineered in HiCAD. Around 800 m² of natural stone and roughly 4,500 m² of ceramic cladding will be mounted on our support structure.”

Both projects show how Lomax Systems uses HiCAD to make a real difference—and make the hidden strength visible. “People are visual thinkers. By generating HiCAD renders of our technical solutions early in the process, everyone can see their added value. We don’t just design the support structures; we also create the complete execution drawings in HiCAD. The end result is a ready-to-install package, complete with assembly and detail drawings as well as all necessary fastening materials, for simple and efficient installation.”
